Frequently Asked Questions
What is restoration in disaster management?
Restoration in disaster management refers to the process of returning a property to its pre-loss condition after it has been damaged by events such as fire, water, storms, or mold. This involves cleaning, repairing, rebuilding, and sometimes replacing materials to ensure the property is safe, functional, and habitable. At First General Eastern Ontario, we handle all phases of the restoration process—from emergency response to full reconstruction.
What is the difference between disaster recovery and restore?
Disaster recovery typically refers to the broader plan and procedures followed after a major incident, encompassing safety, insurance coordination, and long-term rebuilding. “Restore,” on the other hand, is the specific process of repairing and bringing a property back to its original state. While disaster recovery may involve multiple services and stakeholders, restoration is a core part of this process—and is our specialty.
What is the restoration phase of a disaster?
The restoration phase begins once immediate threats are stabilized—such as stopping water intrusion or securing a fire-damaged site. This phase includes drying, cleaning, sanitizing, repairing structural damage, and rebuilding. At First General Eastern Ontario, our team uses advanced techniques and industry standards to ensure efficient, high-quality restoration.
How quickly can you respond to an emergency?
We offer 24/7 emergency response and can typically be onsite within hours. Rapid intervention is critical for preventing further damage, especially with water or fire-related events. Our technicians are trained to stabilize situations and start mitigation work immediately.
Do you work with insurance companies?
Yes. We work directly with all major insurance companies and adjusters to simplify the claims process. Our team provides detailed documentation and estimates to help ensure a smooth and transparent experience for property owners.
What types of disasters do you handle?
We specialize in residential and commercial restoration after fire damage, water damage, storm damage, mold contamination, and other catastrophic events. Whether it’s a flooded basement, a fire-damaged business, or storm-related roof failure, we provide comprehensive cleanup, repair, and reconstruction services.
Is mold removal part of your services?
Absolutely. Mold remediation is a key part of our restoration services. We identify the source of the moisture, contain the contamination, remove mold-infested materials, and restore affected areas using certified techniques to ensure your space is safe and healthy.
Can you help with reconstruction after the cleanup?
Yes, we provide complete reconstruction services once mitigation and cleanup are done. This can include drywall replacement, flooring, cabinetry, painting, and any structural repairs required to fully restore your property.
