Skilled Labourer

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in the construction industry, who is skilled in a variety of construction tasks and is committed to delivering high-quality work. As a Skilled Laborer, you will work under the direction of site supervisors and project managers to support various construction activities, ensuring project timelines and standards are met.

This job could lead to further opportunities such as carpenter, construction manager, and more depending on the skillset, experience, and development of the employee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Site Preparation and Clean-Up: Assist in preparing construction sites by clearing debris, unloading materials, and setting up safety barriers and signage.
  • Material Handling: Load, unload, and transport construction materials and tools to appropriate locations.
  • Support Skilled Trades: Provide support to carpenters, masons, electricians, and other tradespeople on-site. Perform tasks such as drilling, cutting, measuring, and basic assembly under supervision.
  • Operate Equipment: Operate basic construction equipment and power tools (saws, drills, jackhammers) safely and responsibly.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all site safety protocols, including PPE use, hazard identification, and reporting of unsafe conditions.
  • Quality Control: Assist in maintaining quality control by inspecting work and ensuring compliance with project plans and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience as a laborer in the construction industry, with knowledge of basic construction processes.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, standing for extended periods, and working in various weather conditions.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with construction tools, materials, and basic measuring and layout techniques.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of construction site safety protocols and willingness to follow safety procedures at all times.
  • Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, take direction, and communicate well with supervisors and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: WHMIS, Working at Heights, or other relevant safety certifications are an asset.
  • Driver’s License: A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are preferred.
